EIP Active & Healthy Aging Reference Sites: Valencia

Who are we

The Valencia Region VLC-EIP Reference Site, coordinated by OPESVAL (the European Health Project Office, www.opesval.eu), is a network led by the Department of Health of the Regional Government of Valencia, which has enrolled in this Reference Site the quadruple helix of innovation: the network of healthcare, public health and research centres depending on the Health Department; as well as, universities, research centres, professionals, research or non-profit organizations, end-users and big, medium and small companies. The pivotal structure of this network is the Valencia Health Service (VHS), the public service depending of the Valencia Government Health Department responsible for healthcare and public health in the Valencia Region. The VHS works under a scheme of universal coverage (97% of the population), and operates an extensive network of acute and long-term care hospitals, specialized outpatient and primary healthcare centres and public health centres. Healthcare in this network is free of charge and supported by Regional Government budgets (6.000 million euros in 2015).

Since, active and health ageing topic is included in the Regional Strategic Agenda of the Regional Government, all Reference Site actors are aligned and working together in order to carry out innovative intervention on AHA; as well as, to scale up those interventions within the Valencia Region, in other Spanish regions and abroad.
